CLUE #1

The rocky hill pictured below is home to a number of historical buildings, including the Parthenon, perhaps the most famous symbol of our mystery country. In the 5th century BCE, the great statesman Pericles had new buildings raised 30 years after the area was leveled by the Persians. The Periclean Age was a golden age, a time of peace, prosperity and enormous creative output. The Parthenon is a temple to the city’s patron, a goddess of wisdom, as well as a statement of strength and success meant to inspire citizens and impress and intimidate rivals. In its aesthetic harmony, the building embodies the ideals of this innovative ancient civilization – balance and order, guiding principles in the arts, in the civic arena and in life in general.

CLUE #2

The island pictured below is one of thousands that belong to our mystery country. This island is part of the Cyclades group. About 3500 years ago one of the largest volcanic eruptions in history blew most of this island into the stratosphere, literally. What remains above the water’s surface is the volcano’s caldera rim. Most of the island’s population lives right on the edge of the caldera’s sheer walls, 1,000 feet above the sea. This island is one of the top tourist destinations in the country, even in the world. It’s known to be very romantic.

CLUE #3

Pictured below is the palace at Knossos, located on the largest island in our mystery country. Knossos was a center of the Minoan civilization, which thrived from about 2700 to 1450BCE. The Minoans were the earliest advanced civilization in Europe and strongly influenced the later civilizations of our mystery country.
