CLUE #1
The ancient city below is by far the most visited (and most famous) attraction in our mystery country. It was a fabulously wealthy trading center with monumental buildings carved into the red, sandstone walls of a canyon. This Nabatean city flourished from about 200 BCE to 200 CE.
CLUE #2
According to tradition, Moses came within view of the Promised Land and then died at the site below. The site is located on a mountain top, from which visitors can lookout over a modern national border and into the land Moses and the Israelites traveled for 40 years to find. A modern church is built on the spot around the remains of an ancient church, including some fine mosaics. The Brazen Serpent Monument is a modern sculpture representing both the bronze serpent of Moses and the cross of Jesus.
CLUE #3
According to the Bible, Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist at Bethany Beyond the Jordan. A great deal of evidence suggests that the site pictured below is that place. The remains of numerous ancient churches and lodgings for pilgrims have been discovered and are in various stages of excavation. There are also ancient baptism pools built into the river’s edge. A modern Orthodox church also stands on the site.
